Fantastic 3D Offers

So you’re thinking of buying a new 3D TV? Well you need to forget those typical, gimmicky images you probably have in your head about people sat sniggering at the oversized, flimsy cardboard glasses stuck to their faces, 3D TV will revolutionise the way you watch television and movies forever and Samsung’s range of LED 3D TV’s is breathtaking.

The dramatic move from 2D to 3D isn’t just a little sprint up the TV ladder; it’s a great big marathon. 3D TV has been massively successful this year and is only set to get bigger and better, especially with new technology in the making so that eventually there won’t even be the need to wear glasses to watch 3D TV. But that’s the future, this is the present.

Now I’ve miraculously managed to hunt down 5 fantastic money saving deals at Direct TVs. These cracking packages include of one of Samsung’s 3D TV’s, a Samsung 3D Blu-Ray player and, you’ll probably find this hard to grasp – a 5 Year Warranty! What else could you possibly want in a full package? These packages are perfect for anyone wanting to gear up for the 3D home entertainment phenomenon.

These packages include the Samsung models UUE40C7000XKXXU, UE40C8000XKXXU, UE46C7000XKXXU, UE46C8000XKXXU and the UE55C8000XKXXU, which I’m sure you will all agree are fantastic televisions on their own, never mind when they are part of a great offer like this.

All these packages differ in price depending on the size of TV you choose, but the cheapest is £1399, and this isn’t just the cheapest at Direct TVs but the cheapest I can find anywhere else on the internet. The most expensive package is £2699 but that’s for a 55 inch 3D TV package, and again it’s still the cheapest I can find anywhere on the World Wide Web.

And not forgetting to mention, Sky are bringing out their own 3D channel in October this year so you will be able to watch a whole array of things from Sports and entertainment programmes right through to movies. And you can still use your existing Sky+ box to immerse yourself into the 3D world – how great is that?!

Well that’s all for now but please keep checking the blog for regular updates on all things 3D.

More 3D TV News

Lots to catch up on this week in the world of 3D TV, namely updates on the World Cup and on this year’s E3. Beginning, as we will, with the latter, there was exciting news from Sony about the 3D PS3. Sparking excitement from all corners, the multinational announced that their latest range of games would be coming to the public not in standard 3D but in glorious 3D. If at first a 3D PS3 doesn’t sound tempting, well, what’s wrong with you for starters, but also, Sony have been doing their upmost to prove you wrong. They’ve announced a great range of 3D PS3 titles including the much anticipated Killzone 2, alongside the equally exciting prospect of Little Big Planet 2. Obviously Sony weren’t one to pass up the opportunity of an up sell, so this news of the 3D PS3 was linked in pretty heavily with Sony’s own range of Bravia 3D TVs. Needless to say, enjoying 3D PS3 entertainment won’t be cheap, but from what we’ve seen, for the price you’ll pay it’ll definitely be worth it.

It won’t have escaped your notice that there’s a bit of sport going on at the minute too. This summer’s World Cup in South Africa is, not surprisingly considering the technology, the first to be partially broadcast in 3D. 8 of this tournament’s games, in total, are being shown in the format, with people in 26 countries able to enjoy the action. As with the Premier League games the 3D action was truly stunning, again looking most effective on the close up shots and action replays, but with depth conveyed superbly in pretty much every shot. It almost makes up for England’s terminally dire performances thus far! More 3D TV news soon.

We Sample 3D TV…

We’ve experienced 3D TV. We’re not trying to make you jealous by telling you that; it’s a simple fact, we’ve experienced the stunning effects of 3D TV weeks before it becomes available to the UK market. The best bit is, we can now confirm that all the excitement; all the furore over what has been labelled in some quarters as a fad was worth it. We can report now with undeniable certainty that 3D TV is stunning; indeed, it’s even more impressive than we ever anticipated it would be. If you weren’t excited before, then you have reason to be excited now because regardless of the price, 3D TV is going to be worth every penny.

Samsung 3D TV

Samsung 3D TV

We were introduced to a Samsung LE46C750, a 46 inch LCD beast that looked amazing in its own right, and blew all expectations out of the water when it was switched on. Handed the active shutter glasses we were spilling over with excitement, and as we slid them over our eyes we were not to be disappointed. The Samsung 3D TV was displaying a 3D copy of Monsters vs Aliens, which shot out of the screen straight at us as soon as the glasses were in place; the effect was better than we could have ever imagined. The depth on show was glorious, and it felt like actually reaching inside the TV and touching the characters would be a wholly realisable action.

The only bounds of the Samsung LE46C750 were its own physical boundaries; the frame within which the screen is set. The frame in some ways felt like an intrusion on our enjoyment, getting in the way of the action, which was forced to work around the constraints of its limiting border. Saying that, this minor gripe was all but forgotten when focussing on the truly mind blowing pictures visible through the glasses. Forget all about 3D in the cinema, because 3D TV for the home is here, and it’s here in a big way.

A Depth of Colour

The switch from 2D to 3D TV has been likened by an expert in technology to the switch from black and white into colour all those years ago. Think back (if you’re actually old enough to remember) at just how revolutionary that change was – that’s what we can apparently anticipate with the impending switch to 3D TV. Let’s think about it; the transition from black and white to colour required both new and expensive equipment along with new, expensive film. In much the same way, the leap from 2D to 3D TV requires, as before, new and expensive equipment, along with specially designed glasses. But are there some barriers out there that 3D TV will have to cross before it becomes truly main stream?

Firstly, there’s the glasses. Now, everybody knows what old 3D glasses were like; they were made of cardboard and had red and green lenses, making the wearer look ever so slightly silly, to put it mildly. The new glasses are undoubtedly an improvement on that, coming in stylish contemporary designs that look a world away from the old style. But, what about if you already wear glasses? Sadly, there’s no option but to shove the 3D glasses over your own and just put up with it! The glasses also put a limit on how many people can actually watch your 3D TV. Much of the time watching TV is a social thing; as a family or a group of mates you gather round the TV and watch as a group. The expense of the glasses means though, that this won’t be a possibility.

Happily, there are 3D TVs in development, and indeed already in production that don’t require the glasses to provide the full 3D effect, however they are very expensive and not widely available. For now it appears we’re on the cusp of a 3D TV revolution, but, as with any advance in any medium, it’s going to take some fine tuning before it’s perfect.

3D TV News #2

Welcome back all you 3D lovers. This week in our 3D TV news we’ve got some exciting information about the latest Panasonic 3D TV – soon you could have a Panasonic 3D TV right there in your living room. On Tuesday Panasonic will debut the first Panasonic 3D TV at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The TV in question is a 3D Plasma TV, and Panasonic believe that it has superior 3D technology in comparison with other LCD and LED offerings; vitally for them, experts seemingly agree.

In the US market, Samsung and Panasonic are going head to head for market share, and the Panasonic 3D TV could be key to this; if it outperforms Samsung’s offering then obviously, Panasonic will gain an edge. One plus for them, is that as we saw in our last article, they produce a full range of 3D products, including cameras and production technology, whereas Samsung are focussing entirely on the 3D TV.

The Panasonic 3D TV is an enormous 50 inch beast that delivers full HD 1080p 3D viewing – it’s so impressive in its performance that it’s even been endorsed by Avatar director and 3D expert James Cameron. As we’ve previously discussed, both Samsung and LG have 3D TV offering, however theirs are based around LCD and LED technology, and with Plasma proving to be the more impressive, it appears that Panasonic’s gamble on technology could have paid off. But you have to question, is the Panasonic 3D TV even a gamble? Panasonic are, by some distance, the world’s number 1 Plasma TV manufacturer, and with Plasma technology proving to be the most effective for 3D viewing, it seems like a natural progression for the most popular manufacturer to produce a TV with the most effective technology.

If you’re going to want Full HD 3D TV viewing on a massive scale then the Panasonic 3D TV could be for you.

3D TV HD Camera

With 3D TV now a reality, the natural progression from this is the 3D TV Camera. Soon, you won’t have to put up with viewing your favourite memories on grainy film, now you’ll be able to relive them in all their three-dimensional glory. It’s Panasonic leading the way the this time, having designed a 3D TV camera that will have all you need to create 3D video right there in one machine.

Panasonic’s 3D TV camera will become available somewhere around the autumn of this year, and will use the same kind of technology we’ve previously discussed in relation to 3D – dual cameras filming left and right video streams, which when saved and viewed give an image depth. The uses of this kind of technology are pretty self explanatory, but we’re most excited about the prospect of You’ve Been Framed 3D. We can only imagine that someone falling in a lake or off a stage gets funnier with a bit of added depth perception.

Will a 3D TV camera be expensive? The short answer is yes. But that’s no different to any other kind of new technology; these things always start off expensive then quickly become affordable to the regular consumer like you and me. Panasonic’s current advertised price for the system is $21,000, which may seem like a high price to pay for a 3D home movie, but erm, we’re sure it’ll be worth it.

What about video editing we hear you cry? How will you chop and change your home video footage in all its 3D glory? Well Panasonic have got that base covered too; as well as their 3D TV camera, they’ll be releasing a full HD 3D monitor, alongside a range of production equipment, so those who enjoy editing can do so efficiently and effectively.

Keep your eyes peeled for the 3D TV Camera and more 3D TV news soon!

3D TV News

Some exciting news in the world of 3D TV this week! Firstly, Sky have announced that, following their trial run earlier this season, 3D will be launched in thousands of pubs across the UK. Originally premiered in just 5 locations for the Manchester United vs Arsenal match, Sky’s 3D TV football coverage will now be rolled out nationwide for the crunch clash between Manchester United and Chelsea.

This isn’t just another one-off though; Sky have committed to screening at least another 5 games in 3D across the country before the end of the current season on the 9th May. This means that millions more people will now be able to experience the wonders of 3D TV from the comfort of their local, whilst enjoying a pint!

This news will only do more to whet the appetite of the masses for 3D TV. They won’t have long to wait though, as this week Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic all confirmed that they’d have 3D TVs commercially available within the next month or so.

It’s likely that LG will be first out of the traps with their Full LED 3D Ready TV LX9900 hitting shelves as early as April. This TV, LG’s flagship 3D model will truly be a set to behold, offering an ultra-slim design, without a bezel between screen and frame alongside Active 3D technology.

There’s an important distinction to be made here too. The 3D TVs showing the match action in pubs will, in contrast to the home consumer models, feature Passive 3D technology. This is the cheaper option, and requires only cheap plastic glasses with polarised lenses. Active 3D technology, on the other hand, requires more expensive active shutter glasses, making it impractical and expensive for mass public use.

Tune in again soon for more 3D TV news!
